Biography

Dr. Wayne Osness was appointed to the faculty of the University of Kansas in 1966. In addition to teaching, he directed the Graduate Program and the Exercise Physiology Laboratory in the Department until 1973 when he was appointed Chair of the Department. He Chaired the Department for 35 years and retired in 2002. He published 113 scholarly papers, 4 books and gave over 200 invited presentations.

Dr. Osness was very active professionally at the State, District, National, and International levels. He was president of the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance, the National Association for Sport and Physical Education and held leadership positions in other organizations including The United States Olympic Committee. He received numerous awards including the Luther Halsy Gulick Medal for his contribution to the profession.
