Beginning Your Career As A Teacher

Students who graduate with a Bachelor's degree in Physical Education Plus (formerly Health & Physical Education) from the University of Kansas will have fulfilled the requirements for the degree as well as a Kansas initial teaching license for pre-kindergarten through 12th grade. The School of Education provides information about the Kansas licensure exams, application process, how to apply from out-of-state, and more. View the licensure page here.

Graduates who have chosen to pursue a second teaching area in addition to PE, will have also completed coursework to prepare them to earn (by examination) one of the following add-on licensure endorsements:

  • Health (Grades PK-12)
  • Mathematics (Grades 5-8)
  • Science (Grades 5-8)
  • English (Grades 5-8 or 6-12)
  • Speech/Theatre (Grades 6-12)
  • Psychology (Grades 6-12)
Graduates who have chosen to pursue a minor rather than an add-on licensure endorsement, will have completed required coursework for a minor in one of the following areas:
  • Sport Management
  • Business

Students interested in careers as a Physical Education (PE) teacher should visit the University Career Center web page for information on career paths, job titles, salary and income levels, and more!
