José Muñoz is the Director of Operations for Student-Athlete Development and Leadership/Rowing at Kansas Athletics. José also works with senior administration to develop diversity and inclusion initiatives for student-athletes and staff and serves on special committees through the University. He has assisted in the creation of the “Kansas Way,” a new human resources program for all incoming graduate assistants and part-time staff at Kansas Athletics. He has played a pivotal role in developing and refining of KU Leads department’s leadership curriculum to support students’ transition into intercollegiate athletics and prepare them for success on-and-off the playing field. Additionally, the 2014 KU Sport Management graduate attended the 2016 Summer Olympic Games as a United State Olympic Committee Volunteer at the USA house in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. In the summer of 2017, he spent the summer leading student groups through educational, adventure, and critical issue programs abroad in the Dominican Republic. Since 2016, José has been an active member of the University of Kansas Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Advisory Group, University of Kansas Sexual Assault Campus Committee, Kansas Athletics Diversity Committee, and Kansas Athletics Advisory Committee. While at Kansas, Muñoz competed in cross-country as a Jayhawk for two years before an injury cut his career short.
