Rob Thomson, Executive Vice President of Communications and Digital for Sporting Kansas City, has more than two decades of professional experience in sports communication, marketing, advertising, public relations and digital media. The Kansas City native, who began his first stint with the Major League Soccer club in 1997, oversees a variety of areas for Sporting KC — including public relations, communications, brand advancement, community relations and digital and social media. Thomson’s duties expand into the promotion of world-class Children’s Mercy Park as a premier venue for major sporting events outside MLS, concerts, shows and more. He also assists in the oversight of other state-of-the-art properties such as Sporting Fields + Athletics and No Other Pub. Thomson was a two-sport scholarship athlete at Southern Methodist University, graduated from Baker University and holds a master’s degree from the University of Kansas. He has also previously worked in the sports marketing and advertising field and served as a sports marketing professor at Willian Jewell College. Thomson is a board member for the Greater Kansas City Attractions Association (GKCAA) and works extensively with The Victory Project, the charitable arm of Sporting KC that unites players and fans to help children battling cancer.
