Biography —
Nataliya Bredikhina, PhD, is an Assistant Professor of Sport Management in the Department of Health, Sport, and Exercise Sciences. Before joining the University of Kansas, Dr. Bredikhina completed her doctoral studies at Temple University in Philadelphia, where she majored in Business Administration with a focus on sport management while also serving as a research assistant in the Sport Industry Research Center. Currently, Dr. Bredikhina’s research focuses on issues of branding in sport, particularly as they relate to the psychology and strategy of personal branding,and has been supported through grant funding by prominent sports organizations such as the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA). Her teaching experience spans topics such as personal brand monetization, sport marketing, sport sponsorship, and sport sociology.
Dr. Bredikhina brings an international background and an insider perspective to the research and to the classroom. Originally from Moscow, Russia, she arrived to the United States as an international Division I student-athlete and competed on the varsity tennis team at the University of Maryland. She pursued her master’s degrees at the University of Central Florida, earning both an MBA and a master’s in sport business management, while serving as a research assistant at the Institute for Diversity and Ethics in Sport. When not teaching or researching, her hobbies include playing or watching tennis and traveling.

Dr. Bredikhina’s research portfolio includes projects on the strategic management of various sports brands, ranging from sports celebrities and event sponsors to youth sports non-profits. Her primary research interests lie in the psychology and strategy of personal branding, encompassing athletes, social media influencers, and executives. Through a combination of qualitative and quantitative approaches, she explores how individuals build personal brands and how their audiences perceive them within broader market, institutional, and societal contexts. Dr. Bredikhina’s research has been published in peer-reviewed journals such as the Journal of Sport Management, European Sport Management Quarterly, and Sport Marketing Quarterly, and presented at leading marketing and sport management conferences, including those hosted by the American Marketing Association, the Academy of Marketing Science, and the North American Society for Sport Management.
