Biography —
Dr. Paek is an assistant professor in the sport management program and the director of the Center for Sports Marketing Innovation. She is originally from Seoul, South Korea. She graduated early from Inha University in Incheon, South Korea, with a major in kinesiology, receiving the Outstanding Student Award. She completed her master’s degree in global sports management at Seoul National University, where she worked as a research assistant at the Baseball Academy. During this time, she handled administrative duties for leadership courses aimed at baseball coaches and retired professional players. Dr. Paek earned her doctoral degree in sport administration from the University of Northern Colorado, focusing on sports consumer behavior.
Her academic papers have been published in journals such as Sport Management Review, European Sport Management Quarterly, International Journal of Sports Marketing and Sponsorship, and Sport, Business and Management: An International Journal. She has also served as an ad hoc reviewer for Sport Management Review, Managing Sport and Leisure, and the Sociology of Sport Journal.
Dr. Paek was a volleyball athlete in South Korea for 10 years, an experience that led her to gain a variety of practical experiences. She has extensive experience across various sectors of the sports industry, from domestic to international sports fields. Dr Paek’s experience ranges from developing and strategizing local sports programs at a newly established regional sports club to assisting with domestic and international event management duties as a team manager for the South Korean women’s national team and serving as an interpreter for American athletes in Korean professional sports teams.

Research —
Dr. Paek’s research interests include sports consumer behavior and cognitive psychological processes. Her primary research focus is on the well-being of sports consumers, with specific reference to the psychological impacts of mediated sports consumption on various domains of their lives. Additionally, she is interested in analyzing the effectiveness of advertising and sponsorship in digital consumption decision-making, as well as understanding the needs and values associated with emerging forms of sports media consumption.
Dr. Paek possesses a wide range of skill sets for various research methods within the field of sports management, focusing primarily on quantitative research. She often employs a psychometric assessment approach, consulting on research design and development using survey methods and latent variable analyses. As a secondary set of research skills, Dr. Paek is currently exploring cognitive and affective responses driven by various sports marketing stimuli using eye tracking, electrocardiography (ECG), and facial electromyography (fEMG). The Center for Sports Marketing Innovation currently hosts funded projects and is equipped with eye tracking, ECG, and fEMG devices, facilitating a variety of interdisciplinary research collaborations.
