Biography

Dr. Loree L. Weir, Ph.D. ACSM-EP is currently the Graduate Program Director for Exercise Science and an Assistant Teaching Professor at the University of Kansas. Dr. Weir is originally from Washington State and did her undergraduate degree in exercise science at Eastern Washington University. After working at a health club in Seattle for a year, she went to graduate school at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln for her masters and doctoral degrees. As a graduate assistant at UNL she taught labs for exercise physiology and human anatomy. While in Lincoln she also worked as an editorial assistant for the National Strength and Conditioning Association. After graduate school, Dr. Weir moved to New York City and did adjunct teaching at Teacher’s College-Columbia University, New York University, and York College in Queens before moving to Des Moines, IA where she did adjunct teaching at a number of area colleges, including Des Moines Area Community College and Des Moines University.  She moved to Kansas in 2012, teaching at Washburn University as a full-time lecturer, and then as an assistant professor at Baker University, before coming to KU in 2024.  Dr. Weir is married, has three children, and one grandchild.  She enjoys being outdoors, camping, backpacking, and walking her dog.

Teaching

Dr. Weir has taught a wide variety of classes related to exercise science. She is interested in understanding the impact physical activity has on metabolic function and its contribution to healthy aging, including the importance of resistance exercise in attenuating the loss of muscle mass and function due to age and chronic disease, and enjoys sharing the power of practicing a healthy lifestyle on the development of chronic disease with her students.
